What a tremendous difference a fine day makes to almost any event! Never more was this in mind than throughout June, 1958; whenever the sun broke through the spirits of thousands of local people rose at a much greater rate than the thermometer reading, while each dark cloud or spot of rain had a very depressing effect.

The rain beating on countless bedroom windows during the early hours of Friday, 27th June, 1958 heralded that our worst fears were to be realised, and so it turned out a soaking wet day for the visit of H.M. The Queen. The day up to noon was really beyond description and the disappointment of the citizens of Lincoln was complete. Thousands of people defied the elements and turned out to offer a warm greeting, but how different a day of sunshine could have made it.

We of the supply industry were more fortunate in that Saturday, 28th June, 1958 was a fine day for our Sports Day at Leicester where a gathering of more than 3,000 employees' families and friends spent a most enjoyable time.

For you, dear reader, it is our earnest wish that your holiday weather shall be sunshine all the way.
